Mixed Media with Tattered Flowers

Hello creative people, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend.  Our Spring continues to be up and down with the temperatures.  This weekend, it's a little like winter but without the snow and the middle of the week was more like summer.

I'm still hooked on making paper flowers, it's fun to use different colours and shaping techniques and for this card I used mixed media to create the background.

I start with Strathmore mixed media card stock, 400 Series which I like a lot as it holds a lot of water and has a smooth vellum finish which is great to stamp on.

The first step was to create texture using Tim Holtz Stencil THS032 Flourish and molding paste.  When dry I added Distress Paints (Violet and Blueprint).    I brushed a little heavy body white acrylic paint after drying.  I also stamped some lettering using blue Versafine ink which is hard to see in the photo.  I also used a little turquoise mica power and finished with Distress Crackle paint here and there.

Dies:   Marianne Design - Clock CR1234, Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered Florals 656640, Dee's Distinctively - Large Green Leaf

I wet the flower die cuts after blending Distress Inks over top and crinkled the largest for the first layer.  I curled some of petals as you can see and added small beads to the centres with Glossy Accents.

You can see more of the detail in the close ups below.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great week,
Shirley

Gorgeous Shirley so very dimensional and pretty with stunning colours.

For some reason you dropped off my radar as did a few other blogs and I am gradually reinstating so that I don't miss out on future makes. Hope all is well with you and the family.

Your beautiful card makes me want to reach into the screen to touch it Shirley!
Your colors make my he♥rt sing too.
Spring certainly has been a lot cooler than "normal" here in the Wash DC area too. Not being a fan of the heat I am enjoying it...lots of people are not LOL.

They are exquisite, Shirley! Your flowers look petal-real, and colorfully-full-of-fantasy! Just Shirley style - and oh-so-gorgeous! Do you think I got enough hyphens in that sentence? The stenciled background created beautiful texture, while the color blends it beautifully with your elements! GORGEOUSNESS, Miss Shirley. Soon Summer will be upon you, and things will normalize weather-wise (see, I can rhyme, too! LOL) Better end this comment before my silliness gets completely out of control! Enjoy a marvelous week, my sweet friend! xo

I, for one, would never tire of your beautiful flowers. Love this bouquet, and it looks like it is placed atop one of the old garden sundial tops. Using this element in your design added a bit of 'roughness' with the delicacy of your flowers, and so pretty it was. Of course, your backgrounds are always phenomenally fantastic too! Hope your weather gets better, and stays stable. We've been going from spring back to a cooler temp too. TFS & hugs.

I really like what you've done here Shirley. I did a canvas quite recently using the same Tim Holtz die which is one of my favourites and I think it makes a fabulous background. Purple is one of my favourite colours and the various shades that you've used on your flowers look wonderful. I go though phases of making flowers and I tend to stockpile them and then start again when I run out. It's also a great way of using up scraps of card and paper. Thank you for the kind comment that you left on my blog. Crafty hugs, Sandra X
