Hello everyone, I hope you are having a great week. Summer has arrived here, it's hot and humid. Ontario weather is strange, we go from winter to summer almost overnight. Less than two weeks ago we had a few snow flurries and today I have the AC on as it's hot on our second floor. Hopefully the nice weather stays :)
I had another play with Tattered Florals die cuts by Tim Holtz (Sizzix). The background has more white space than I usually show but I thought the flower colour popped against it.
I stamped Hero Art's - Fabulous Flourish stamp in the background with smokey grey Versafine ink. (I love this flourish stamp it is fabulous!) 'Art' is from Chocolate Baroque's Artistic Expressions set. Next I splattered a little acrylic paint and silver glimmermist.
The flower layers are coloured with Distress Ink. I spritzed them with water, crinkled, unfolded, and then layered into the large flower. I curled a few petals and glued prills to the flower centre. The purple/orange mat is a piece of background that was hanging out in the my stash.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,
Shirley

Workshop using Distress Inks and Brushos
Hello everyone, we are enjoying a long weekend here, it's beautiful weather, too nice to be inside. I was busy with gardening this week, no time for crafting.
I recently taught a couple of workshops showing participants how to create layered backgrounds using Distress Inks, water, stamping and stenciling. I had a great time with the friendly ladies and their projects turned out beautiful. Unfortunately I forgot to bring a camera with me to take pictures of their 'work'. Below are the samples that I created for the class.
The stamps are from a lovely Chapel Road set : CRA7011A-Butterfly Square, available from Class Act Stamps.
Along with Distress inks, I sprinkled a little Brusho powders and spritzed water for texture.
The tag has extra layering using Tim Holtz Bubble THS002 Stencil with Gesso and I stamped using Chapel Road mixed media stamps & Distress Inks on the background.
The main image stamping was done with Versafine Majestic Blue ink.
Dies: Sizzix Tim Holtz Tag Collection 658784. Spellbinder Die - Fluttesr S2-073 (butterfly).
Other products: Stampendous Frantage Silver Crushed Glass Glitter FRG01C, it's fantastic! (the butterfly body). Tim Holtz Crinkle Ribbon (died with Distress Inks) and Tim Holtz Metallic Trimmings.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week,
Shirley

Mixed Media with Tattered Flowers
Hello creative people, I hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. Our Spring continues to be up and down with the temperatures. This weekend, it's a little like winter but without the snow and the middle of the week was more like summer.
I'm still hooked on making paper flowers, it's fun to use different colours and shaping techniques and for this card I used mixed media to create the background.
I start with Strathmore mixed media card stock, 400 Series which I like a lot as it holds a lot of water and has a smooth vellum finish which is great to stamp on.
The first step was to create texture using Tim Holtz Stencil THS032 Flourish and molding paste. When dry I added Distress Paints (Violet and Blueprint). I brushed a little heavy body white acrylic paint after drying. I also stamped some lettering using blue Versafine ink which is hard to see in the photo. I also used a little turquoise mica power and finished with Distress Crackle paint here and there.
Dies: Marianne Design - Clock CR1234, Sizzix Tim Holtz Tattered Florals 656640, Dee's Distinctively - Large Green Leaf
I wet the flower die cuts after blending Distress Inks over top and crinkled the largest for the first layer. I curled some of petals as you can see and added small beads to the centres with Glossy Accents.
You can see more of the detail in the close ups below.

Fabulous Flapper
Hello and Happy Mother's Day.
It's sunny and cool here but we've had some great spring weather and are enjoying time outside. I also had some time in my craft room yesterday and created this card. I bought the Art Deco Spellbinder die as I thought it would go great with my Fabulous Flappers set from Chocolate Baroque.
I used Distress Inks and Gold Glimmermist for the smaller background and stamped the pretty flapper girl and flowers from Fabulous Flappers with Majestic Blue Versafine ink. I coloured the images with Distress Inks and highlighted with a white pen, added liquid pearls to the flowers and half pearls around the border. I also added Diamond Stickles here & there but you can't see it in the photo.
Dies: Art Deco border is Spellbinder S6-075 Astoria Decorative Accent and the label around the small background, is Astoria Labels S5-250.
The folded card stock is dark navy not black.

Whimsical Flowers
Hello everyone I hope you are having a great weekend. Here it's raining and cool but we enjoyed some pleasant sunshine the last couple of days.
I have a whimsical card to show today:
The background is a 'mess' of Dylusions spray inks, stenciling and stamps from Chocolate Baroque's Spring Foliage Set.
I used Heartfelt Creations - Stripped Sun Kissed Fleur stamps and matching Dies for the flowers. I molded them and pinched the ends. I doodled the stems and leaves to create a whimsical look.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great week,
Shirley
