Colourful Steampunk Birds (plus Design Team Call)

Hello everyone,  I hope you are doing well, we are dealing with ice rain (all weekend) it's making us nervous.

Another break from Christmas designs today as I have a couple more cards to show using stamps from the fun Steampunk Birds set by Chocolate Baroque.  The first one features the super cool Rooster, love him !

Also exciting news - Glenda the owner of Chocolate Baroque has an open Design Team call:   If you are interested please visit the Design Team Blog here which provides a link to more information.

The background above started with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink using the Acrylic Block technique.   Next I stamped the cog fragment from Steampunk Butterfly with Dusty Concord DI.   I stamped the grasses from Floral Edges with Seedless Preserves DI.   The Rooster was embossed with copper powder on separate card stock, coloured with Inktense pencils, cut out and attached.    The sentiment is from Birthday Words.

I used the quirky bouncing birds and birdhouse from Steampunk Birds to create the design below.

I started by stamping cogs from Punky Flowers with white Colorbox Pigment ink.    I blended green and blue pigment inks over top and then rubbed ink off the cogs for the ghost effect.   Next I blended a little Broken China Distress Ink with TCW Gears stencil at the top for the 'clouds'   The birdhouse, bouncing birds and sentiment from Steampunk Birds were stamped with Cocoa Memento Dye ink and coloured with Prisma pencils.

Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the Season,
Shirley

Love, love, love the bouncing birds such a subtle background which shows the birds beautifully.

Now the rooster made me laugh when I saw it. Such a proud looking bird, he seems to be looking at that cog and thinking "what an earth is that". lol

Warm crafty hugs from Shirl x x

Merry Christmas, Shirley! Such wonderful steam punk images from CB, but more -- I love the vibrant colors - the backgrounds really do feel industrial - that surprises me how your pretty backgrounds look amazing with just about any style image! hugs, de

Two beautiful cards Shirley. The rooster is delightful - the nice bright background shows him off so well - and I love the floral edges and cogs to finish. The second card with the lovely bouncy birds and the birdhouse has the blues and greens which I adore and I really like the way you have used the stencil for clouds and the light colour cogs in the background. Your colouring on both is lovely as usual.

Your rooster just glows & looks very majestic. I particularly like the way you echoed the edges of his tail feathers - that jaggedness - with the rough inked edging of the image panel as a whole plus your use of the different purples for the cogs & the floral edge. Doesn't he look at home on that little bank?
Your second sample has so many techniques which you've combined to create a very unusual design; I particularly like your use of the vertical spokes of gears for the lower background adding to the sense of vertical movement with the gears stencil which has the roundedness of - as you say - clouds. The aqua mist floating between the 'clouds' & your ghosted punky flowers adds tremendously to the effect.

Hello Shirley, I am running out of superlatives with your wonderful cards, especially today the bouncing birds with their marvellous steampunk background and their cosy house. Having said that I have gone back to look at Mr. Cockerel and he is such a very fine bird that I love him too.

Two fabulous bird creations Shirley - the steam-punk Rooster looks so proud of himself, and those inky colours are glorious! My fave though, just has to be the Boing Boing birdies!! - I absolutely love the way they are bouncing up and down on the springs!!
And of course, your backgrounds are stunning, as always!
Wishing you and yours a wonderful Christmas and a happy and peaceful 2014.
Hugs, Sylvia xx

Am doing a little catchup tonight, while it's quiet, and enjoying some wonderful cards. These 2 are so pretty, yet so very different in the look than the later posts (I'm reading from top down, datewise). You are a genius at switching from the classic themes to the punk motifs, and each genre is wonderful. Hope you didn't have any ice or storm damage. Hugs & TFS
