Leafy Sea Dragon

Hello everyone,  I hope you are doing well.

Our snow was melting but we still have piles in areas where it drifted during the storms in February.   The shrubs that I like to prune in late winter are still buried and last night we 'enjoyed' another snow storm, more snow.   It's freezing rain this morning and the roads are a mess.   "Spring where are you? - the calendar says you should be here soon!"

Well let's forget about snow..... have you ever seen a Leafy Sea Dragon?    I hadn't until I saw him amongst Design by Ryn's Sea Creatures collection and thought he was the coolest design.   I had fun creating another 'sea' for him to hang out in.

Starting with a piece of water colour paper, I added watercolour paints wet on wet (just a inexpensive set - blue, green, purple, yellow and a little black).   While it was still wet I added sea salt in areas where I wanted create a 'bubble effect'.     Once dry and the salt brushed off, I sprayed yellow & gold Glimmermist.     Still not satisfied I sprayed a little turquoise Dylusions here & there and blotted off.

Once dry again I blended Peacock Feathers Distress Ink around the parameter and stamped Ryn's Sea Bubbles with the same ink.   I stamped one of Ryn's Seaweed Set stamps & blended Black Soot Distress Ink around the edge.  I stamped  Leafy Sea Dragon  with black Stazon, then coloured him with Tombow markers.  I used a Gellyroll pen for highlighting along with some glitter.

Hey Shirley, I`m choosing a bad time to come back to Canada it sounds like. Will have to get my father to bring a coat the airport to pick me up! I just love this card!!! Beautiful colours and texture in the background. You chose great colours for the Leafy Sea Dragon popping him out but still tying him in with the background. Gorgeous! For some reason my post about Karin didn`t appear on my Facebook timeline yesterday. I posted it again today and will leave it up for a bit before posting your card. All the best :)

OMG! If you come to Tampa you MUST go to the aquarium. You have captured this sea dragon perfectly. Aren't they so gorgeous? And some of them are even frillier and more gorgeously colored! They don't even look real to me - they are like fairies only real - you card is beautiful - it actually looks quite realistic, tho I know it is a fantasy Shirley moment. hugs, de

Such a beautifully serene card, and I love reading about how you do the backgrounds. So fun, and so gorgeous as well. Your leafy dragon is just the kind I like...not fierce looking, but friendly. Also love your blog background. Is this your garden? So pretty. Hopefully Spring will eventually get here. I'm glad we're expecting cold & rain, but no snow. I can deal with rain! TFS

Now he is rather special & I love the little home you created for him - it looks ever so comfortable. Your white highlighting is so effective, particularly amongst those stamped scrolls & I love the contrast between the black edges of his 'fins' & the white detailing. The glow you created with the background makes this very magical indeed.
