Mixed Media Art Journal Page

Hello Everyone,

I had time for another Art Journal page a couple of days ago and thought I would share it with you.    It's the first time I've drawn a face in my journal and I learned more about using my Neocolor Crayons (water based).  It's fun to combine mediums isn't it ?

I've come to realize that I enjoy being creative the most when I don't have a plan.   That's what my Art Journal is for right ?  .....just 'go with the flow' (as Alie says) which I tried to do with this page.    Working without a plan is the opposite of my personality type, so practicing 'not thinking and just doing'  is good exercise for me.

I drew the lady & the large doodle flower with pigment pens.     Next I added some texture using a stencil and light molding paste.   I coloured the lady with the Neocolor Crayons (water based).  The background is acrylic paint along with a little Silks acrylic glaze and then I added the dot texture with a stencil and acrylic paint.

Create & Art are from the Artistic Expressions Set from Chocolate Baroque.     I've been using this set a lot and over the holidays I ordered the Artistic Affirmations (gift to myself) to go along with them.

I honestly did not pay attention to the prior page in my journal when I started.  I simply opened the book, folded over the page and covered the rest with wax paper to protect it.   After I was finished and I opened my book I was surprised !    I'm obviously drawn to these colours.  (I blogged the house page previously, it was done with Dylusions Inks, and the outlines & flowers are with Neocolors)

Thanks for stopping by & have a great day !
Shirley

This is so good Shirley, face's are so hard to draw and you've made such a great job of this one. It does go well with the house, you say you must be drawn to these colours, when I see them I think of your work. I'm looking forward to seeing what you do in your journal next.

Absolutely fascinating - I haven't a clue where to start with journalling...... interesting hearing how you create too. I plan & plan & plan & plan & plan.........& devise schemes but never get started. amazing how different personalities are. Amazing how your pages worked together & I just love the way you have overlaid patterns. I have a set of the Neocolor - must be from about 20 years ago & they're barely used. I started to colour with them as I began to stamp but I had no idea about shading so would just colour flatly.......goodness how eyes get opened.

Must say that I love these colors a lot! Seems you are drawn to them at first every time... Thats why I sometimes restrict myself to use other colours. Great the drawning! And I think in real the texture will add even more to this beautiful page! The Neocolors are great I think (learned to use them in school when I was about 18 or so); like to use them in several different ways. Must say that most of the times I work without a plan and I just love it! Hugs, Gerrina

Gorgeous journal. Love the colors you have chosen. Isn't it amazing that both pages are so similar in color? You're right, you must be drawn to those colors. The face is very well drawn. Have a good week.

Hello Shirley, it has been great to watch your progress with art journalling. I remember your very first attempt not so long ago. I think it´s just great that you are pushing yourself to try something new and out of your comfort zone. Congrats on your very first face :) You have a lot of natural talent and it´s a pleasure to watch you developing. Love your Shirley colours too :)

Hi, Shirley! My Goodness! I know you said this is in your journal, but your journal needs to be framed and put on the wall in an interesting manner! The face looks so open, clear eyes revealing a quizitive appeal! Wow! Really gorgeous in so many ways. I also like the "dots" in various sizes for the background. Very interesting with the magenta flowers in the background, too. It's very hard for me to create with a plan. Maybe that is why I'm so slow. I'm more of a "by the seat of my pants" person LOL Thanks for sharing your masterpiece, Shirley.

Hi Shirley! Wow, do I ever love this page that you made! My goodness, you made such a beautiful girl! Lovely face and those big blue eyes are terrific, they really add character to her, this is so well done! Her hair is pretty too! The colours are so fun and so beautifully done, and they are nicely vibrant, gorgeous! Her yellow top is fun, and that pretty purple flower just completes the picture! What talent you have!! Very impressive! Looking forward to your next art journal page! :)
