A Little Bird Told Me

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.    We are keeping busy in our hot, dry summer.  I have not been in my craft room much and not in front of my computer either so I've had little time lately to visit blogs.

It's too hot to be outside so I had a play with some new stamps from Chocolate Baroque.  I could not resist ordering their new sets As Free as a Bird and A Little Bird Told Me.  It felt great to be in my craft room for a change:)  I also used a new Crealie die set that my sister brought over from the Netherlands... thanks Sis:)

The background is a combination of Distress Inks (with water) and Distress Paints.  I used some stencils and stamped over with the bird cage.   I coloured the bird with Prisma pencils and carefully cut him out.

Crealies Dies:  CL CF 21 and CL CS 11.   I used white card stock to create the flowers which I coloured with Distress Inks and molded with stylus tools.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,

Green and Blue Poinsettias with Sea Bubbles

Hello everyone and welcome to the new followers, I hope everyone is doing well.  I've been busy with family visiting and my niece's wedding but now back with some Christmas designs.

I know it sounds a bit strange, Poinsettias with sea bubbles but I think it worked!   I was happy to find the awesome Tattered Poinsettia Die Set (Tim Holtz by Sizzix) recently and had some fun playing with them.

The background is Dylusions  and Distress Inks.  I stamped over top with Design by Ryn's Snowflake Set but it's hard to see as there is a lot 'going on'.    I also used white acrylic paint with a dotty Memory Box stencil.  I added glitter with spray glue onto the background.  Joy is from Chocolate Baroque's Artistic Expressions set.

I die cut the flowers on white card stock and coloured with Distress Ink including the new Twisted Citron which is a new favorite colour.  I stamped over some of the petals with Design by Ryn's Sea Bubbles Set (using the smaller stamp).  I also used Crackle paint on the flower and added glitter while wet.   I added small beads to the centre with Glossy Accents.   The greenery die cuts are from the Tim Holtz Sizzix die set - Holly Greens 658759.  I added a little white puff paint to the greens.

You can see the Sea Bubbles better on the flowers in this next design below:

I used Distress Inks in the background (with water and Acrylic plate) and when dry I stenciled over with a couple of Memory Box stencils and Distress Inks.  I also used Radiant Gels (African Jade) by ColourArte with a Holly Tim Holtz stencil.   Merry Christmas is from the Penny Black-Christmas Cheer set.

I coloured the flowers again with Citron Distress Ink and stamped using Sea Bubbles with the same ink.  After shaping I painted with Viva Crystall Gel and again added beads to the centres with Glossy Accents.

Thanks for visiting and have a great day,
Shirley

The Voice of the Sea

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well and enjoying summer.  It's quite hot and humid here but still better than minus 25 Celsius and snow blowing.

I have a page from my small Art Journal to show today.  I actually started this back in May when the Art Journal Journey challenge was "in the Sea"  but I was too busy to finish it until recently.

This is a mixed media piece but I can no longer remember the steps.   I used acrylic inks and paints along with a couple of stencils.    I also added some glitter with spray glue and silver embossing enamel.

Stamps:  Quote is by Impression Obsession which I used crackle paint over top.    Sea horse Set by Designs by Ryn.

It's hard to see but I also used Design by Ryn's Floral Spiral Stencil in the background.  The flower die cuts are from Heartfelt Creations.  I used white cardstock, blended ink, molded and added micro beads to the centers.

You can see some of the detail on the close up below:

Mackintosh Bride

Hello everyone, I hope your summer is going well.

I created the card below for one of my niece's wedding using her bridal party colour of deep purple.  This design is the same lay-out and stamps as a previous card that you might recall.  I used a stamp from Chocolate Baroque's gorgeous Mackintosh Beauty set.

At the suggestion of a friendly & talented blogger Chrissie, I'm joining in at Try it Tuesday as their current challenge theme is 'In the Frame'.

I stamped the bride on designer paper and coloured with Prisma pencils.  The frame is a die cut by Spellbinder.

I made the rose using Heartfelt Creations Vintage Floret and Bella Rose sets.  I stamped the flower layers with a fragment from Chocolate Baroque's Texture Fragment set before shaping and layering.  I have the stamp set that goes with the Vintage Floret but I find it easier to just random stamp with texture.  Heartfelt Creation's newer sets are in one piece (die and stamps) which are easier to work with.  I rubbed Inka Gold on the flower when it was finished.   It's so much fun playing with die cut flowers.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,

Colourful Snowflakes on Canada Day

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well.  Happy Canada Day to my Canadian followers!

I have a Christmas design today, in non-traditional colours.   I enjoy making Christmas cards,  it's fun to get started on them early.   I love snowflakes and used the beautiful hand drawn Snowflake Set by Designs by Ryn.   But I'm not ready for snow for at least six months and we are currently enjoying a lot of warm weather.  We've also had more rain than normal in June, the grass, trees and flowers love it.

The background started from a large sheet of mixed media which I sprayed different colours of Dylusions paints.

Next I stamped snowflakes from Snowflake Set using different colours of Distress Ink and embossed with clear.  The white embossed snowflakes were last and you can see that some of the detail was lost when I embossed over embossing.

The beautiful die cut snowflakes are by Spellbinder (S4-433).     The largest layer was painted with Radiant Gels by ColourArte.  I also added Twinkling H2O's over top of the Gel (after dry) and also painted the other layers with the paints:  Sky blue, Wisteria, Jasmine and Icicles (which is clear over the white flake).  I added some rhinestones to finish it off.

If you enjoy Designs by Ryn's stamp designs you will find inspiration using them at her Facebook Page and at her blog.

I hope you enjoyed a colourful Christmas design in July.  Thanks for stopping by and have a great day,

Shirleyx
